How I Created Cinematic Illustrations using Midjourney

Cinematic illustrations and children-oriented cinematic locations are crucial in captivating and engaging young audiences in films and cartoons.

These designs spark children’s imaginations, create a sense of adventure and exploration, enhance storytelling, and provide cultural exposure.

Back then, only graphic designers or animation artists could design cinematic illustrations and children-oriented cinematic locations.

Now, with Midjourney, anyone can design cinematic illustrations effortlessly. In case you don’t know how to write and structure prompts for generative AIs, you must check out this guide:

MidJourney Prompt Engineering Made Easy. The guide covers multiple categories on how to structure prompts. It is not only for Midjourney; you can use this knowledge on any generative AI, such as DALL.E 2, Stable Diffusion, Adobe Firefly, and more.

Children-Oriented Cinematic Locations

To create a children-oriented cinematic location, just redirect your imagination into Midjourney. To create a breathtaking children-oriented cinematic location, just add the keyword “dreamcore” along with your imaginative subject brief in your prompt and let Midjourney do the magic.

Lets start with “underwater world”.

Prompt #1: magical underwater world filled with vibrant coral reefs, talking sea creatures, and mysterious underwater caves, bioluminescent life, dreamcore, Autodesk 3ds Max render –ar 21:10 –q 2

Wonderful results. All I did here was just brief about what my theme, “underwater world,” looks like. Along with that, I just added keywords, such as “bioluminescent life,” “dreamcore, “Autodesk 3ds Max render,” –ar 21:10, and –q 2.

The keyword bioluminescent life helped me to achieve the underwater lighting, the “dreamcore” is really a magical keyword that included some dream-like elements.

Next, the keyword “Autodesk 3ds Max render” helped to bring the illustration view and “–ar” and “–q” are Midjourney parameters for defining the aspect ratio and quality respectively.

Next, I have come up with the theme “Enchanting garden”. For this, I have applied the same prompting technique as Prompt #1 except the subject definition.

Prompt #2: An enchanted garden filled with sparkling flowers, friendly insects, and a magical tree that grants wishes, dreamcore, Autodesk 3ds Max render, UHD –ar 21:10 –q 2

Stunning images. I have not created this even if I’m a graphic designer. The keyword “dreamcore” did the magic here.

Now, I would like to go with the theme “A fairytale landscape” with same prompting technique that I have described above.

Prompt #3: A fantastical fairytale landscape featuring talking animals, charming castles, and mischievous fairies, dreamcore, dreamy, Autodesk 3ds Max render, UHD –ar 21:10 –q 2

As usual, I have created a really wonderful fairytale landscape with Midjourney.

Cinematic Illustrations

After exploring the children-oriented cinematic landscapes and achieving good results, I wished to move into the multiple cinematic genres.

These cinematic illustrations can be used in children’s story books, non-fiction, novels, etc.

Since I have already created illustrations for blog thumbnails in Midjourney, I know exactly what I should do.

My past learning experiences in creating illustrations include:

  • Including Illustration artist names to infuse their style in the artwork
  • Including keywords, such as “illustrations”, “minimalistic” and in this case “cinematic”
  • Adding render engines, such as octane, unreal engine etc for the professional illustration look
  • In addition to this, I also included anime film styles as reference

Prompt #4: illustration of a tree house, monkeys playing beside it, dawn, illustration by Izzy Burton, minimalistic, Unity Engine render –ar 3:2 –q 2
