How to Create GTA, PUBG, and Other Game Characters in Midjourney

Videogame characters have always been a popular subject among artists and designers due to their unique visual style that is often recognizable and iconic. The challenge lies in capturing and creating the essence of these characters and their distinct features.

However, with the advancements of generative AI, creating these characters has become a lot easier and more accessible.

Videogame characters have a unique visual style that is often recognizable and iconic. It’s not surprising that many people want to recreate these characters or render their style.

Now, with Midjourney, anyone can design gaming characters effortlessly. In case, you don’t know how to structure prompts for generative AIs, you must check out this guide:

MidJourney Prompt Engineering Made Easy. The guide covers multiple categories on how to structure prompts. It is not only for Midjourney, you can use this knowledge on any generative AI.

Recently, I was experimenting with videogame prompts when I discovered anyone could effortlessly recreate famous game characters or render their style.

I started with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) style characters and achieved some cool results.

Prompt 1: PUBG style videogame avatars facing front in a solid grey background, intricate details, videogame sprite sheet –q 2

To make it more professional, I added the keyword “CryEngine rendered” to my prompt. You can see the outcome below.

The trick to creating more characters in the same style is to add the “sprite sheet” keyword to your prompt.

However, when I tried to create GTA-style characters, I did not get the expected results on the first try. Take a look at below two images.

Prompt 3: Grand Theft Auto style videogame avatars facing front in a solid grey background, videogame sprite sheet, PS5 graphics –q 2

Prompt 4: Grand Theft Auto style videogame avatars facing front in a solid grey background, videogame sprite sheet –q 2

But I remained optimistic and changed the keyword “avatars” to “characters” and added “full body” keywords to my prompt. This resulted in nice results.

Prompt 5: Grand Theft Auto style videogame characters facing front in a solid grey background, full body, videogame sprite sheet, PS5 graphics –q 2

Next, I recreated the infamous characters of GTA and infused them with the style of the game. I successfully recreated the famous GTA character “Trevor Philips” and the cover girl of GTA.

Prompt 6: Grand Theft Auto style videogame character Trevor Philips facing front in a solid grey background, full body, videogame sprite sheet, Octane rendered, PS5 graphics –q 2

This discovery is exciting for videogame enthusiasts who want to recreate their favorite characters or incorporate their style into their work.

As you can see, I have shared my results and provided prompts for you to try yourself. With the use of these prompts and a little experimentation, anyone can recreate these characters effortlessly.

It’s important to note that the use of these exact same characters must adhere to copyright laws. While recreating exact same characters for personal use is generally acceptable, using them for commercial purposes requires permission from the original creators.

However, inheriting the style of games is not a problem. Midjourney won’t claim copyright if you are a paid member.

Conclusion

The Midjourney is a fascinating and useful generative AI tool for those interested in videogame character design.

With the right prompts and a little experimentation, anyone can recreate iconic characters and incorporate their styles into their work.

To create other game characters, just replace “GTA” and/or “PUBG” in the prompts mentioned in this article.

However, it’s important to remember to respect copyright laws and use these recreations only for personal use or with proper permission for commercial use.

The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to see what other amazing creations will emerge from this technology in the future.
