What is Minting Scrolls in STEPN?
Minting Scrolls in STEPN is a revised sneaker minting process that has been implemented to stabilize the ecosystem by controlling the number of new shoes going into the marketplace. Now, users need Minting Scrolls along with GST and GMT to mint a sneaker.
After reaching certain levels, some players completely relied on minting and selling activities for profits. They did not move to earn GST/ GMT. To overcome this problem, STEPN implemented the Minting Scrolls.
With Minting Scrolls implemented, players need to move in order to mint a sneaker.
How to Get Minting Scrolls in STEPN?
Players can obtain Minting Scrolls from mystery boxes (MBs) or they can directly buy them from the marketplace by using GMT.
However, buying Minting Scrolls on the marketplace would be a bit expensive. Hence, players can maintain the attributes, such as Energy and Luck to draw a Mystery box which will give the chance of getting the Minting Scrolls.
They can get Gems, Minting Scrolls, or GST from Mystery boxes. There is also the chance of getting nothing from the Level 1 and Level 2 Mystery boxes.
To get the mystery boxes, players need to walk, jog, or run. Mystery boxes will be dropped randomly based on the Energy and Luck attributes of an NFT sneaker. Ideally, 5 Energy and 12+ Luck.
Unlike before, Mystery boxes now have 10 Levels. With this, even players with a pair of common shoes with 2 energy will have a chance to get a mystery box.
Is Minting Scrolls Needed to Mint Sneaker in STEPN?
Considering the positive health of the STEPN economy, the team has implemented Minting Scrolls which are essential for minting a sneaker or Shoe-Minting Event (SME).
With this update, STEPN players will need Minting Scrolls along with GST and GMT for Shoe-Minting Event (SME) hereafter.
Minting Scrolls has five qualities as same as Sneaker qualities:
- Common
- Uncommon
- Rare
- Epic
- Legendary
To mint a sneaker, a player needs two Minting Scrolls corresponding to the quality of the parent sneakers, also known as Vintages.
Conclusion
STEPN team also increased the cooldown duration of minting from 48 hours to 72 hours and the cost of minting along with Minting Scrolls implementation. These updates definitely will limit the activity of mint and flip strategists and minting farms.
Thus, there will be more time needed for the number of new sneakers coming into the market.
Minting Scrolls also act as another mechanism for burning GMT. Players can also sell Minting Scrolls if they have more of them.

If you are not able to see the Minting Scrolls on the marketplace, you need to open the STEPN application with mobile data turned off. After getting inside the application, you need to turn the mobile data on.
By doing this, you will be able to see Minting Scrolls on your STEPN application under the marketplace.
2. Can I buy Minting Scrolls on the marketplace?
Yes, players can buy Minting Scrolls on the marketplace instead of getting it from the Mystery boxes (MB). However, players who bought Minting Scrolls from the marketplace, need to spend more GMT to mint shoes compared to those who got it through moving (via Mystery boxes).
